Stone Fabrication Assistant Manager / Scheduler

Job description:

About Us

The Design Center at Red River Lumber helps homeowners, builders, and designers select tile, countertops, and other finishes. Our in-house stone fabrication shop uses digital templating and CNC fabrication to turn slabs into finished, installed countertops.

We're part of the Red River Lumber Family of Companies, a group of nine building materials, hardware, and home design brands headquartered in Texarkana, with about 150 employees across 12 locations. We are the 2026 LBM Journal Dealer of the Year and a Tugboat Institute Certified Evergreen company: privately held, built to last, and invested in our people for the long haul.

Position Summary

The Assistant Manager / Scheduler owns the countertop calendar, moving every job from sale to template to fabrication to install on time and without surprises. This person is the shop's main point of contact for customers, builders, and Design Center sales staff, and keeps slabs, remnants, sinks, and supplies on hand so the schedule holds.

Roughly 70% of the role is scheduling and communication, 20% is slab inventory and ordering, and 10% is shop support. Countertop experience is a plus, not a requirement; we will train an organized, customer-minded person on the stone side.

Key Responsibilities

Scheduling

  • Build and maintain the master schedule for templates, fabrication, and installs, balancing crew capacity, CNC time, and travel routes.

  • Confirm every job is install-ready before it hits the calendar: deposit received, selections final, cabinets set, sink and faucet on site, edge profile and cutouts confirmed.

  • Book template and install appointments with homeowners and builders, and send confirmations and day-before reminders.

  • Reschedule quickly when weather, slab delays, site readiness, or remakes move a date, and tell everyone affected the same day.

  • Track every job's status from sale to final install so anyone on the team can see where it stands.

  • Run a short daily schedule huddle with the shop and install crews.

Customer, Builder, and Sales Communication

  • Serve as the shop's main contact for job status questions from customers, builders, and Design Center salespeople.

  • Walk new customers through what to expect at each step, using the Design Center's purchase-to-install process materials.

  • Coordinate with builders and site superintendents on access, cabinet completion, and other trades on site.

  • Log and route issues, punch-list items, and warranty calls to the right person, and follow up until closed.

Slab Inventory and Ordering

  • Maintain an accurate count of slabs, remnants, sinks, and fabrication supplies, including location in the yard.

  • Place and track slab and supply orders with vendors; confirm lead times and adjust the schedule to match.

  • Reserve and tag slabs for sold jobs so material is not double-sold.

  • Keep the remnant inventory organized and visible to sales for smaller jobs such as vanities.

  • Receive deliveries, check for damage, and report issues to vendors promptly.

Shop Support and Leadership

  • Act as the point person when the manager is out: keep the day's work moving and handle walk-ins and calls.

  • Help keep the shop, yard, and slab racks safe, clean, and organized.

  • Report weekly on jobs completed, upcoming workload, backlog, and remakes.

  • Suggest and help put in place improvements that shorten the time from sale to install.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years in a role built on scheduling, dispatch, coordination, or customer service, in any industry.

  • Strong organization: you keep a full calendar straight and catch conflicts before they happen.

  • Clear, friendly phone and email communication with homeowners, builders, and coworkers.

  • Comfort with computers, spreadsheets, and shared calendars; willingness to learn our ERP and shop software.

  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • Experience in countertops, cabinets, construction, building materials, or another trade.

  • Experience with inventory counts, purchasing, or receiving.

  • Some time in a lead or supervisory role.

  • Familiarity with stone materials such as granite, quartz, and marble.

No countertop experience? We will train you on materials, templating, fabrication, and installation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Split between a desk in the Design Center and time on the shop floor and slab yard.

  • Shop and yard areas are loud and dusty and can be hot or cold; required safety gear (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots) is worn there.

  • Able to walk, stand, and climb stairs regularly, and to lift up to 50 lbs (sinks, supplies) with assistance for heavier items.

  • Occasional visits to job sites to check readiness or meet customers.

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday; occasional early starts or Saturday hours when the schedule demands.
